Saran Badjie, a narcotic officer attached to the Sibanor Police Station, testified before the Principal Magistrate Tabally of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, as first prosecution witness (PW1) against one Saikou Trawally, who was charged for being in possession of prohibited drugs.

Badjie affirmed that he could  recall the 15th January 2012.“On that faithful day while on duty on the highway at the Bullock checkpoint, I received a phone call from someone in the same vehicle with the accused person. He informed me that he suspected someone in their vehicle of being in possession of drugs.Upon receiving this information I asked about the vehicle number, which was reported as BJL 9820,” he narrated.

Badjie said he informed his colleagues and after the arrival of the vehicle, he and one Dodou Bojang conducted a search on the accused. “The accused was taken to the charge office, where he was thoroughly searched and found with 3 big bundles of Cannabis tied on his body,” he said.

Badjie then took him to the Sibanor Police Station where the accused person’s statement was taken; he was cautioned and charged with the crime. Under cross-examination, the accused deferred from the witness statement; saying it is all not true. The case is adjourned to 31st May for hearing.
