The 45th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples Right is in progress at the Kairaba Beach Hotel in Banjul .

The two-week session brought together member states of the African Union on a common platform to present human rights reports of the continent for the past six months and also to critically analyse the way forward for the continent with regards to human rights constraints.

Yesterday's public session witnessed the presentation of  state party reports, consideration of the combined periodic report of the Republic of Mauritania, Uganda and Benin as well as the presentation of the activity reports of the chairperson of the commission and also the presentation of human rights violations and constraints in the continent by human rights monitoring groups. The commission is expected to hold a private session to consider the reports and concerns presented before them.

In a separate but related development, a report on freedom of association and access to funding in Africa was launched after the commission's public session was closed. The report was researched, compiled and documented by the Network of Human Rights Defenders in Africa . The report unveiled difficulties associated with the implementation of freedom of association and access to funding in many African countries and provided recommendations for improvements.
