Africell official testifies in Coco Ocean boss’ assailants’ trial

One Omar Danso, anofficial of Africellyesterday testified in the criminal trial involving the state against Mohammed Carew and Modou Jaw before the High Court in Banjul, presided over by Justice Abdulahi Mikailu.


The two accused persons are standing trial on four counts of robbery with violence, conspiracy to commit felony, conspiracy to murder and attempted murder contrary to the Laws of The Gambia. As the prosecution led by DPP S.H Barkun continues its case, the 5th prosecution witness Omar Danso, an official of Africell, the biggest GSM provider in The Gambia testified before the High Court.


The witness Omar Danso told the High Court that Farid Bensouda is a subscriber of Africell who uses number 7760071. Danso further told the court that he was in court in connection to the correspondence the company received on the said number 7760071 concerning the printout of the said number belonging to the complainant, Farid Bensouda.


He noted that the police requested for the printout of the number, which was done accordingly, adding that the telephone number printouts were obtained from a functional computer (server). Danso explained that the information was gathered from the calls made from the said telephone lines.


Meanwhile, the said telephone printouts were tendered in evidence and admitted as Exhibits Q1 and Q2 respectively. Hearing continues on Monday 4th June 2012.
