Aid for Ebo Town flood victims

africa » gambia
Monday, December 08, 2008
Muslim Aid UK, on behalf of the Gambia Field office, recently received a donation of Aqua boxes from the Rotary Club of Wirkworth. The donation was in response to an appeal made by the National Disaster Commission to NGOs in the Gambia to help people who were affected by heavy rainfall.

The organisation last Saturday distributed 14 boxes to victims of the Ebo Town flood in collaboration with the Ebo Town Disaster Management Committee headed by Musa Mendy.

The boxes contained clothing, hygiene equipment for humanitarian and emergency relief services such as buckets, water purification tablets, plates, cups, towels, raincoats, toys for children, and other valuable items. The items were distributed to those considered to be the worst affected flood victims.

According to Musa Mendy, a recent survey conducted by the KMC Disaster Management Committee, UN agencies in The Gambia, Concern Universal and The Gambia Police Force with other partners, revealed that a total of 157 compounds were affected by the flood in Ebo town, and that of this figure, 11 compounds were considered the worst affected.

Many of the beneficiaries who spoke to the Daily Observer expressed their delight and appreciation for what they called "a generous and humanitarian gesture".
