Air Senegal passengers stranded at Banjul int'l airport

Africa » Gambia
Wednesday, April 29, 2009
Information reaching the Daily Observer has it that passengers flying with Air Senegal International from Banjul International Airport to Leopard Sedar Senghore International Airport in Dakar last Friday where stranded and could not fly to Dakar following a ceased operations amid an ownership dispute.

Our reporter made efforts to reach the official at the Air Senegal Banjul office for possible comments but proves futile. He was reliably informed that those passengers who had their booking last Friday could not had their journey with AIS. The row between the company's majority stakeholder Royal Air Maroc left just about 300 passengers trapped in the Gambian capital, Banjul and other locations.

According to reports monitored by our reporter, Royal Air Maroc announced last Friday that Air Senegal had cancelled all its flights. Air Senegal International was created in 2000 and since then, have been at odds with Royal Air Maroc which intensified earlier this month when the Senegalese court ruling banned them (Royal Air Maroc) from withdrawing from the Senegalese carrier.
