The case involving the 18 alleged homosexuals and two alleged lesbians, charged with indecent act, contrary to the laws of The Gambia, was yesterday adjourned by Principal Magistrate Sheriff Tabally of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

The prosecutor, Sergeant 1781 Kinteh, told the court that the case file had been sent to the Attorney General’s Chambers for legal advice and recommendations and that it had been returned to Serrekunda prosecution. Kinteh stated that in view of this, he would apply for an adjournment in order to go over the file and warn his witness, then proceed with the matter.

L.S Camara, defense council for all but the 16th and 17th accused persons disagreed with the prosecution. He asserted that they all have legal responsibility to ensure that the right and liberties of the accused persons are treated fairly during trial.

He urged the prosecution to proceed with the matter in the next adjourned date or for the charges to be withdrawn against the accused persons, since the case has been dragging for a month.Hearing continues on the 14th June 2012 at 2pm.
