Alliance Franco gives to MoYS summer campers

Africa » Gambia
Wednesday, August 29, 2012

Alliance Franco-Gambienne on Monday donated artistic materials to the children who are currently attending the 10-day Youth and Sports Summer camp, organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports at the Friendship Hotel in Bakau. Presenting the materials, Didier Martin, the director of Alliance Franco, said his institution deems it fit to come in to support the camp, as the institution has high interest in young people.

Receiving the materials, Alieu K. Jammeh, the minister of Youth and Sports, thanked Alliance Franco for their support, saying that his Ministry appreciates the gesture. According to him, there is the need to diversify fields in order to move the world forward, while describing fine arts and painting as a very important field, as it can depict imagination. “We want people who can depict the way Gambians live; our houses, traditional dress etc. It is through fine art that such can be shown, thus reminding the larger public of who we are,” he said.

He reiterated that fine art is a very important field of specialisation, and thanked the director of Alliance Franco for the donation. “There is lot to learn from each other and you should use the opportunity to make lasting friends and learn as much as you can,” he concluded with those words of advice.

Lamin K. Saidy of the Ministry of Youth and Sports chaired the ceremony.
