An open letter to Assan Musa CamaraMonday, September 14, 2009 Editor, Please allow me space in your widely read newspaper to publish this article. It was quite refreshing to listen to you, as you narrate on GRTS (TV) on Saturday 5th September in the programme 'One on One', not only your life story but also the birth and journey of an improbable nation. Indeed your dedication to public service is exemplary and can serve as a torch to this and the next generations of Gambians. As you said, development is an ongoing process and that every team must do its part. Well, your team did its part gloriously and I salute you and your comrades for your perseverance, dedication and faith in The Gambia, and what it can achieve as a nation even when its viability as an independent nation was doubted by many. In fact what precipitated this letter is the sad realization that the greatest part of our heritage, the history of the humble and uncertain beginning of an "improbable" nation will be lost for eternity if nothing is done, given the fact that many of our founding fathers have gone. It is in this vein, Sir, I ask you to write an insightful and an insider's view in a form of a memoir this great piece of history; this great heritage, so that it can serve as a reference to successive generations of Gambians. This, Sir, is the last request of a country to a man who serve her diligently. May Allah grant you to live for decades more for your country still need you.
