Annual Jesus March held

Africa » Gambia
Tuesday, April 24, 2012

The Youth for Christ, Gamfes and Scripture Union in collaboration with the body of the Christ in The Gambia recently held their ‘Annual Jesus March’ in Banjul, as part of celebrations marking the most important event in the Christian Calendar, Easter.

Speaking on the occasion, the Right Reverend Hannah Caroline Faal-Heim, the first female Gambian Bishop, who doubles as the president of The Gambia Christian Council, expressed delight for participating in the event and spoke at length on the importance of Easter. Madam Faal-Heim notedthat if Jesus had not rose from death there would have been no Christianity; hence no hope of salivation.

Sylvester Jammeh, chairman of the organising committee, said the ‘Jesus March’ vision was simultaneously conceived by Youth for Christ, Scripture Union and Gamfes on Easter Monday in 2008, adding that the first Jesus March event was held in the Kombos; and that the aim of the march is not to project the image of any individual ministry, but to create a platform that will bring together Christians from all walks of life, with the sole aim of celebrating the death and resurrection of their lord and saviour, Jesus Christ.

Jammeh expressed desire to see more participation in the next Jesus March. The march was characterized by singing and dancing, praying at different locations by various Ministries of God from different denominations.
