Another hippo killed in Niani

Africa » Gambia
Monday, May 04, 2009
A female hippo was last Tuesday killed at Kuyan Bolong in Niani district, Central River Region north.

The hippo which was said to be nine (9) years old and to weigh 2,500 kilos, was shot seven times before it was finally killed by a French national, Noel Saint Galnes who is currently staying at the Madiyana Hunting Camp in Sami district.

The hippo menace has been at the centre of discussion for people of the area for a while now. Alhagie Ganyie Touray, the regional governor, who visited the scene, seized the opportunity to call on the farming community to be patient.
