Antouman Saho joins Cabinet

Antouman Saho, a former Gambian ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, has been named minister of Fisheries, Water Resources and National Assembly Matters.

Saho is also the new National Mobiliser of the ruling APRC party. This development was contained in a press release received from the Office of the Secretary General at State House in Banjul.

It reads:
His Excellency the president, Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him under sections 71 (1) and 71 (3) of the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia, has appointed Mr Antouman Saho as Minister of Fisheries, Water Resources and National Assembly Matters. He is also appointed as National Mobiliser of the APRC party, with effect from today, Thursday 11th June 2009.

All existing structures of the APRC party are hereby dissolved. Antouman Saho, a career diplomat, has served in the army up to the level of a major,  in the Navy unit, culminating into the July 1994 Revolution. Between 1995 and 1997, Antouman Saho served as The Gambia`s first ambassador to the Republic of China (Taiwan), when the two countries re-established diplomatic ties in late 1995; from 1997 to 2001, he served as Gambia`s High Commissioner to Senegal; from 2001 to 2002, he served as The Gambia`s High Commisioner the Republic of Sierra Leone; from 2003 to 2004, he was The Gambia`s ambassador to Guinea Bissau. Saho became the APRC administrative secretary 1 at the APRC secretariat, serving in that capacity from 2004 to 2006.

He was later appointed as a technical adviser to the Banjul - AU secretariate in preparation of the AU summit in 2006, before been sent to the United Arab Emirate (UAE) as ambassador of the Republic of The Gambia, until his current appointment as minister.
