cash to Mbulum, Madina Manen and Sare
Gumalo in North Bank Region, NBR. Mbulum received an ambulance and 5000 Euros for the provision of portable water supply, an ambulance to Madina Manen in Lower Nuimi and the community of Sare Gumalo also benefited from an ambulance and a pledge of 12, 000 Euro to provide safe drinking water. Speaking on behalf of Antwerp-Banjul Challenge, Papa Douch, stated that the support is aimed at complementing the efforts of government to improve quality health care and economic status of the people of The Gambia. He also stated that the ambulances will contribute to strengthening health service delivery, by ensuring that beneficiary communities act promptly in to take to the nearest hospital a patient who is in crtical condition that a health centre in the periphery is unable to handle. Commenting on portable water supply, Douch assured the communities of their continuous support to the government through Jammeh Foundation for Peace in a bid to boost health service delivery. Earlier, Alhaji Ebou Faye, Imam, Ousman Faye, chairman of the Village Development Committee, Fatou Sonko, lady councilor of Fass Njaga Choi, all assured the donors that they will use the ambulances for their intended purposes , including taking appropriate measures to ensure that they were well maintained. "The ambulance," they added, "will alleviate the burden on women and children from trekking long distance to the health centres." Babucar Choi, Acting Health Director for North Bank West Heath Region, hailed the efforts of Antwerp-Banjul Challenge for complementing the efforts of President Jammeh to promote the health status of Gambians and that the provision of clean and safe drinking water amply demonstrates their commitment to achieve quality health care. He informed that the ambulance will contribute to the reduction of late referral of patients by the communities. The community of Madina Manen echoed similar sentiments and commended the donor for the timely response to their request for an ambulance and portable drinking water. Also to speak on behalf of the beneficiaries, was Amadou Bah of GRTS, who also expressed delight for the numerous support Antwerp Banjul Challenge through Jammeh Foundation for Peace continues to render to the people of Upper Baddibu.
