Armed Forces back on track

africa » gambia
Thursday, March 05, 2009
Armed Forces seemed to have put their season back on track with their second successive win of the season - the latest being the 3-1 thumping of GFA Division One returnees Tallinding United at the Independence Stadium last evening.

The Soldiers endured a deteriorating start in the season losing 0-1 to Sea View in the opening followed by another 0-1 defeat against Samger in week two fixture. But a 1-0 win over Hawks in week three fixture, followed by last night's convincing win saw the Soldiers earn a honorable position in the ranking. Skilful Landing Darboe fired Armed Forces ahead in the 2nd minute after converting a penalty before Buba Sama extended the tally in the 14th minute.

Modou Gaye put the game beyond repair for the Tallinding side with a clinical finish in the 84th minute and Sainey Gibba's stoppage time goal, which emanated from a spot kick, only served as a consolation for the Tallinding United side that were reduced to 10 men with four minutes remaining. Goalkeeper Baboucarr Jallow's wild protest to the central referee after conceding his third goal of the evening only landed him a red card from the no-nonsense referee Mawdou Jallow.

Brikama United dent Samger's hopes
Newcomers Brikama United bounced back from their weekend 1-2 defeat by Steve Biko with a convincing 2-0 win over Samger. With joint-leaders - Bakau United and Sea View sharing the spoils earlier on Wednesday, a Samger win would have seen them climb to the summit of the league table with a two-point lead. However, the determined Brikama United side refused to allow themselves to be beaten twice on their own ground as they condemned the Super Cup champions to their first defeat in as many games.

Gamtel also added more salt to Wallidan's wound after a hard-fought lone goal victory in their Banjul derby played at the Serrekunda East mini-stadium.
