artist presents artwork to Daily ObserverFriday, February 10, 2012 A Brikama-based artist with disability problem Thursday afternoon presented a magnificent artwork to theDaily Observer. Speaking at the brief presentation ceremony held at the Observer offices, Beto Fonseca Mandante, 37, said he started the work in September last year but could not complete it on time due to his ill-health. He said he decided to present the artwork to the Observeras a way of recognising the paper’s good publication. While commending the paper for its efforts, the young artist solicited support from the general public, saying that he has a disability connected to a problem with his spinal code. For his part,
the news editor of the Daily Observer, Assan Sallah described the artwork as
good. He said:
“Disability does not mean inability. This is evident by the fact that he has
been able to create or invent artworks that some people who are not handicapped
cannot do” He thanked the artist for the gesture, while encouraging him to do more. "We are very much appreciative of the gesture and we hope it would not stop here but it would mark a new partnership between him and the Company," Sallah added. He concluded by stressing the need for people to support the likes of Mandante. On his part, Musa Camara, chief cartoonist of the Daily Observer acknowledged that this is not the first artwork presented by the young artist to the company, recalling two similarartworks that he previously donated. Camara also acknowledged the support rendered by the company’s managing director to the artist. Author: Aji Fatou Faal | Media Actions See Also |
