The African Solidarity for Action (ASFA), a non-profit oriented organisation recently donated some antibiotic medical drugs to four health centres and one hospital  in the country.

The beneficiaries included the Jammeh Foundation for Peace Hospital in Bundung, the Serrekunda Health Center, Somita Health Center in Foni Brefet, Jahally Health Center in Fulladou West district, Central River Region and Demba Kunda Health Center in the Upper River Region. ASFA is an organisation fighting against poverty, marginalisation, war  and illegal migration.

Speaking at the presentation, Saine Jarju, director of ASFA said the antibiotic drug has come at a better time,  when  the development of the medical system in The Gambia is in high gear. "Now people suffering from infections will have greater access to the drugs they need," he said. He thanked their partners for the generosity in providing the drugs. He reiterated their primary objective of providing free medical drugs and health care to the local communities of The Gambia and urged the beneficiaries to make best use of the medications.

Adama Mbye, coordinator of ASFA, highlighted the purpose of the organisation. He said among their aims are to collaborate with health care facilities through their experts, to seek solutions to health problems through donations of medicines and other initiatives. Haddy Sanyang, officer-in-charge, Serekunda Health Centre, harped on the importance of drugs. She said drugs are used for maintaining or restoring human health by study and diagnosis. "Drug is used in the treatment of conditions like malaria, pneumonias, gastro-entritis, skin infections, TB among others," she said.

According to her, to achieve the desired medicinal effects of drugs, they need to be stored safely and used wisely as required. Ansumana Jammeh, executive director of Jammeh Foundation for Peace Hospital, presented the drugs to the five beneficiaries.
