Auditor General summoned to appear before the Tax Commission

Africa » Gambia
Friday, March 02, 2012

Justice Mama Fatima Singhateh, chairperson of the Tax Commission at the High Court in Banjul, yesterday March 1st 2012, made an order for the Auditor General of The Gambia to appear before the Commission, provided the said officer returns from his official mission outside the country.

The Tax Commission chairperson’s decision came following the appearance at the Commission of one Hanna Davis who announced her representation for the office of National Audit Office and her disclosure that the Auditor General was at the time out of the country on an official mission.

In a brief statement made at the Commission before she was asked to step aside, the National Audit official said, her office was created by the 1997 Constitution of The Gambia, with requirement to be submitting annual financial audit and report to the members of the National Assembly.

When asked by the Commission’s chair about the whereabouts of her boss, she replied that the he was out of the jurisdiction, but is expected back next week. This made the Commission’s chair to make an order through a written summon to be issued to the Auditor General whenever he returns to the country.
