The management of the Brikama Area Council (BAC) Friday disbursed an amount of D196, 500 as its scholarship package for the academic year 2012 in the West Coast Region.

The beneficiary students are from Fatima Senior Secondary School, St. Edward’s Upper Basic School, Sangajor Basic Cycle School, Armitage Senior Secondary School, Kinderdorf Bottrop Senior School, Gunjur Upper Basic and Masrut Senior Secondary School.

The public relations officer of the Council, Modou Jonga said the payment of scholarship and financial aid to needy students is a core corporate responsibility of the Council that they provide annually. He further stated that the disbursement of the scholarsh`ip is a reflection of the continued commitment of the Council to provide amenities and basic services to communities in the region.

The BAC spokesperson said the payments of the schools fees to beneficiary students would greatly enable disadvantaged Gambian children to have access to uninterrupted quality education. Jonga also disclosed that the Home for Children with Learning Difficulties in Sinchu Alagie Village, Kmobo North has been assisted with an amount of D15, 000 for the upkeep of the vulnerable Gambian children that are under care at the centre.

Mariama Bah-Saine, chairperson of the Council’s education Sub-Committee urged the beneficiary students to make good use of the opportunity by ensuring they do well at school, adding that the demand for scholarship opportunities is increasing. She further advised them to be regularly submitting their academic reports to the education sub-committee to enable the Committee evaluate their performances.
