Wednesday, June 22, 2011
The Brikama Area Council (BAC) Friday handed over a cheque of D40,000 for the cultivation of West Coast Region (WCR) youth farms.

The presentation ceremony was held at the Governor's Office in Brikama, West Coast Region and the cheque was presented to Lamin Sanneh, the governor of WCR by the vice chairman of BAC, Lamin Haja Bojang. Musa Mbaye, the deputy permanent secretary at the Ministry of Youths and Sports expressed delight at the donation and commended the Council for being the first to donate towards such initiative.

Mamud Jawla, the BAC youth officer hailed the Council for the continued support it has been rendering to the youths as well as sports activities in the region. He informed the gathering that the proceeds raised from the farms will be used to fund youth activities in the region. Jawla  finally urged the young people to take ownership of the youth farms.

Presenting the cheque to Governor Sanneh, the vice chairman of BAC, Lamin Haja Bojang reassured the young people of the Council’s commitment to contribute to national food sufficiency-driven initiatives.

Receiving the cheque, Lamin Sanneh, the governor of WCR who also doubles as the chairman of the WCR Farm Management Committee, underscored the significance of the donation in achieving food self-sufficiency and harped on the cordial relationship between his office and the Council.

Governor Sanneh also described the donation as timely, as the rainy season is fast approaching.
