BAC gives waste collection materials to institutions

The management of the Brikama Area Council (BAC) recently gave out waste collection materials to institutions in the West Coast Region. 

The materials which include 15 wheelbarrows, 20 dustbins, 20 rakes, 20 cutlasses, 20 hard brooms and 20 spades were previously donated to the council by the National Environment Agency and the United Nations Development Programme to enhance an effective Operation Clean the Nation (OCN) in the region.

The beneficiaries are: the Gambia Armed Forces, Gambia Police Force, Gambia Fire & Rescue Services, Gambia Immigration Department, Gambia Transport Union, the UTG, The Gambia College, Wake Up Transport Company, Brikama High Court / Magistrates Court, amongst others. Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Bakary Jadama, manager of the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit at the NEA, said the donated materials are delivered to stakeholders to ensure an effective national cleansing exercise in the region.

 He commended President Jammeh for his foresight in initiating Operation Clean the Nation. He also underscored the health benefits of the monthly cleansing exercise. Jadama thanked the donors for donating the said materials and noted that the efficient use of the materials by the stakeholders will ensure proper waste management in the region.

On his part, Sunkary Badjie, chairman of Brikama Area Council commended the stakeholders for their participation during operation clean the nation. He also urged the beneficiaries to put the materials into good use. Baba Saidykhan of the Brikama Magistrates Court thanked the Council on behalf of the beneficiaries of the donated materials and promised to put the materials into good use.
