Bakau United's L.B could be the future

Africa » Gambia
Thursday, March 04, 2010
Bakau United's teenage star, Lamin Fofofa, is one of the hottest prospects in the Gambia's first division league.

The richly promising striker or playmaker announced his arrival to the premier tier with some dazzling displays in the Bakau United front-line in past season scoring some decisive goals in the process.

His reputation was enhanced by a glittering performances at the Bakau nawettan league where he recently claimed the leading goal scorer gong on his way to guiding his Ron Mango FC side to clinching both the league and knock-out titles during the just concluded 2010 nawettan league season.

L.B, as he is fondly called by his comrades, the teenager is a born and bred Jaranka. Growing up in the streets of Jarra West, L.B had not much more than the dreams of every other little boy in his town, and the teenager was the talk of the town well before moving into top club football in the urban centre.

At a very tender age, L.B was spotted by the officials of Jarra West FC [a regional first division club in Jarra] playing for the boys’ club at the Tahir Ahmadiyya High School in Mansa Konko. Shortly after the completion of his high school career, Jarra West FC, who had kept a close eye on the player, wasted no time to draft him into their line-up.

L.B's progress was so swift that he was playing at the top level of Gambian football just a year after when Bakau United landed him, after a chance to join arch rivals Steve Biko passed on. He was a key player in the Bakau Zonal team that clinched the 2008 Muhammed Yahya Jammeh Zonal title.

The teenager, who shows skill beyond his years, followed that success by leading Ron Mango to the doubles in the just concluded nawettan season in Bakau, clinching the leading goal scorer trophy on the way with 8 goals in as many matches. Still at only 16, L.B’s career has just started, and has the potential to stay at the top of the game for years to come.

"L.B is powerful and strong on the ball. His ability to pick a pass, shoot from distance and unselfishly work for the team is undisputable. His passion can never been called into question either," revealed his Bakau United coach, who has so much trust in the youngster.
