Bakau youth's hand chopped off

africa » gambia » bakau
Tuesday, January 06, 2009
One Abdoullahi Njie (aka Morou Kebba) recently had his left hand chopped off at the wrist by one Pa Bajinka famously called South between 7-8 pm on the eve of the New Year. The incident occurred in Bakau.

According to eyewitnesses, the scuffle between the two began over a dispute concerning a debt that Pa Bajinka owed Abdoullahi. Njie had demanded his money from Bajinka and was not happy with his response. The two, it was said, engaged in a scuffle and several attempts to separate them - at one point by a soldier - failed.

Sources added that at some point weapons were brandish and in the ensuing melee, Njie's left hand was completely chopped off. It was also said that both combatants sustained injuries. Abdoullahi was taken to the Bakau Health Centre where he was later referred to RVTH. Other sources also stated that Pa Bajinka turned himself in at the Bakau Police Station.
