Basse Health Centre boostedFriday, February 26, 2010 Ebrima Badjie, a senior nursing officer and officer in charge of Basse Major Health Centre, has revealed that the health cases referred to Bansang Hospital has recently reduced drastically, due to the efficient and improved service delivery with latest equipment that are now available at the Basse Health Centre. He added that the Health Centre has now started major operations at its’ surgical room. Badjie made this remarks during an interview with the Daily Observer correspondent in URR, following the introduction of a scanning machine including henotheistic machine at the facility. He disclosed that the machines were introduced by an international organisation called Child. According to Badjie, the machines will now serve Basse and the surrounding areas in all surgical operations. He explained that the Health Centre serves over 22,000 people within the vicinity of URR and that they had 200 referral cases to Bansang Hospital in 2009 alone. "It is very complicated and time consuming to refer someone from a remote village in URR while bleeding to Bansang Hospital," he stressed. He intimated that nurses in URR and CRR were recently trained on how to handle emergency cases. This training, he said have exposed him a lot and he believes it will help them use the machines effectively at the Health Centre. Commenting on the issue of helping traditional birth attendants, Badjie said that a philanthropic group promised to send them another ambulance that will help facilitate their mobility in the region.
