“The Basse Ice Plant makes over D40, 000.00 per day selling ice block during the month of Ramadan,” says Maimuna Hydara, a cashier at the Plant. She made this disclosure Sunday in an interview with the Daily Observer at the Ice Plant in Basse Kaba Kama.

Hydara said the demand for ice block in Basse and its surrounding villages especially in the month of Ramadan is high. She was also quick to stress that the demand for ice block should not lead people to increase the price especially during Ramadan.

For her part, Neneh Camara, a native of Saihadatou in Jimara District who also sells ice block explained that they buy ice blockat D10 each at the Hamidou Jah Ice Plant and transport them to Jimara District were they sell them for D15 each.

For his part, Hon. Saidou Sabally, the NAM for Wulli East who was also in the queue to buy ice block, warned against price hikes during Ramadan.
