Basse youth leader calls for unityMonday, October 05, 2009 Momodou Salieu Kamara, the chairperson of the Basse Youth Association (BYA), in the Upper River Region (URR), has called on youths in Basse and URR to come together as one and work in order to develop the country. He made these remarks recently in an interview with the Daily Observer's URR correspondent. Kamara challenged the youths of the country to nuture discipline, hard work and patriotism. According to him, The Gambia is blessed with a government that always has the youth as part of its central agenda. "We, the youths, should come together and make The Gambia a better place for our offspring, as we are lucky to have a leader who treasures the youths a lot and has done a lot for the Gambian youths since he took over in 1994", he said. According to him, they have also witnessed a lot of developments among the youth, as the president's personal assistance has helped a lot of young men and women to acquire higher level of education. He called on the youths to desist from embarking on illegal migration as it has claimed the lives of many Gambian youths. He urged them to stay and make a better life for themselves and work for the betterment of their beloved country.Kamara finally took the opportunity to congratulate the president, His Excellency, Shiekh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya Jammeh, on his passion and love for The Gambia. The Basse Youth Association was established in April 2009 and since its inception, has embarked on a series of activities within Basse, including the rehabilitation of the Basse football field and the holding of a series of set-setals across Basse.
