Biko under pressure to close in on leaders

Africa » Gambia
Wednesday, February 03, 2010
Second-place Steve Biko will be under intense pressure to close the gap on new league leaders Gamtel FC when they rub shoulders with Samger in a rescheduled week four fixture today at the Serrekunda East mini-stadium.

The Telecommunication Boys, who beat Steve Biko 1-0 in their week three fixture and leapfrogged them to the top spot, have now opened up a four-point lead at the 12-team table after an impressive 2-0 win over Brikama United on Saturday at the Brikama Box Bar mini-stadium.

Biko?s clash with Samger, which was scheduled for the following day at the Serrekunda West mini-stadium, was called off due to the Africa Nations Cup final in Angola, and stumbling champions Armed Forces took full advantage of the fixture change to jump to third position after earning their first win of the season again Real de Banjul.

With the soldiers trailing the Bakau side by only an inferior goal difference coupled with Gamtel?s four-point lead at top, Steve Biko are very much aware of what is at stake when they battle the Academy Boys who presently occupy the eighth position with three points.
In another rescheduled fixture today, Coach Alagie Sarr?s Sea View side will take on Interior FC at the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai Kunda knowing well that a win will surely propel them to the second place should Steve Biko slip.

The day?s final rescheduled fixture will see Bonu Johnson?s Ports Authority side battle Bakau United at the Independence Stadium, with both sides also needing the maximum points to remain in the race for the crown.
