Bintang Bolong Lodge initiates Students' Sponsorship fund

Africa » Gambia
Wednesday, September 30, 2009
Ebrima Drammeh, manager of Bintang Bolong Lodge in Bintang village, Foni Bintang Karanai, disclosed that his lodge has initiated a student's sponsorship fund which he said, will make a great impact on the education of the students within the area.

In an interview with the Daily Observer at his office in Bintang Bolong Lodge, Mr Drammeh said the initiative is geared towards the payment of school fees for some needy children in the area and will also help the people of the area in other aspect of their needs. He added that the owners of the lodge who are German nationals wanted to see that the community of Bintang derive something from the profits realised from the lodge. "The owners of this lodge are not interested in making profit but instead they want to see the sustainability of the lodge and the community in Foni to also get their share of the cake.

As the government of The Gambia attaches great value to education, Drammeh expressed optimism that the initiative will also add value to that effort in helping children to get affordable education. He further revealed that the management of the lodge have rehabilitated the Bintang village bore-hole which is today supplying clean water to the community and that they have also dug a well for the women in their garden.
