Blues 'secret' striker Njogu Demba eyes Norwich deal

Africa » Gambia
Wednesday, August 17, 2011
Premier League (English top flight) new boys Norwich City could snatch Gambian trialist Njogu Demba-Nyren from under the noses of Championship side Birmingham City.

The Blues have kept the identity of the 6ft 2in Gambia international, who played nine games for Notts County in League One at the end of last season but is now a free agent, a closely guarded secret.

Blues boss Chris Hughton ordered staff to keep the 32-year-old striker's name under wraps after he impressed and scored in a practice match against Spurs last week.

But the Mirror has learned Demba-Nyren's name after he told Birmingham players he favours a move to the Premier League Canaries. City are desperate for more firepower, with Cameron Jerome set to be sold and Nikola Zigic and Marlon King currently injured.

Much-travelled Demba-Nyren has played for clubs in Sweden, Greece, Bulgaria and Norway. The Gambian international has performed for a number of teams throughout Europe during his career, which started back in 1998 with Swedish outfit Falu BS.

Since then, the 31-year-old has played in Greece, Denmark, Bulgaria and Norway for the likes of Panathanaikos, Esbjerg fB and, most recently, Odense Boldklub. A 6ft.2 forward with an eye for goal, Demba-Nyren will bolster the Canaries' ranks should he get the deal.

As a free agent, the Gambian Demba don’t need to worry much concerning a contract as he can still sign with any club even after the transfer window closes in Europe at the end of this month.
