BMMJ Fans Club gives to Fajikunda Health Centre

Africa » Gambia
Thursday, May 17, 2012

Baby Mariam and Muhammed Jammeh Fans Club (BMMJ), a Tabokoto-based group, on Thursday donated food and non-food items to the Fajikunda Health Centre during a presentation ceremony held at the health centre.

The move that was part of the Club’s efforts to contribute their quota to national development, particularly in the health sector saw them donate items such as packets of soap, buckets, tomato paste, cooking oil, among others.

Speaking at the occasion, the founder of the club, Yama Njie, who once worked at the said health center for nine years, said her movement was motivated to contribute their quota to the health sector due to what she called the excellent work and attention given to the sector by the Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya Jammeh.

She indicated that complementing government’s efforts in the health sector is part of their objectives. Njie took the opportunity to applaud the support rendered to her club by the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC), Gamtel, Gamcel, the Judiciary and Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation (SSHFC).

Deputising for the mayor of the Kanifing Municipal Council,Pa Sainey Jallow, a nominated councilor underscored the importance of the health of the country, while applauding Yama Njie and her club for what he called their generous contribution.

On receiving the gesture, the head of the Public Health Unit at the health centre, Kura Joof, equally thanked Madam Njie and her Fans Club for their good gesture. While assuring that the donation will go a long way in assisting the patients, Joof used the opportunity to appeal to the general public, individuals and the private sector to emulate the donor.
