Lamin Njie, a Gambian businessman based in Turkey, yesterday donated, among other sporting equipment, football jerseys to the Gambia Armed Forces football team at a ceremony held at the GAF headquarters in Banjul.

Njie, a native of Kiang Gifaroun, was accompanied to the GAF's headquarters by his wife, Binta Barrow, for the presentation ceremony, which was presided over by the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Lang Tombong Tamba and attended by other senior members of the Armed Forces, including Lt. Colonel OB Mbye and Lt. Colonel Sereign Modou Njie.

Presenting the items, Njie hailed the Gambian leader for his unflinching efforts to develop the Gambia. He described the Gambian leader as a man with a vision and wisdom, and hinted that this was not the first time he has donated to the security unit. Receiving the gear, the Gambia chief, Major-General Langtombong Tamba, on behalf of the Armed Forces football club, thanked Mr Njie and his wife for their kind generosity. Describing the donation as timely, Tamba assured the donors that the items would be put into good use.
