Brikstone Fiesta updates

Friday, February 19, 2010
It is said that a healthy nation is a wealthy nation.

So any efforts geared towards promoting the health and well-being of the citizenry is a move in the right direction. In a bid to augment the health care service delivery in the country, especially Brikama and its environs, the Badinyaa Promotion and Production, under the leadership of Sulayman M Sanyang, a Gambian music promoter based in Glasgow, Scotland, in collaboration with Hook On Movement, Frontline Crew and the Pa Bobo and his Kaira Band on Wendesday 17th and Thursday 18th 2010, organised a big musical festivals billed the "Brikstone Fiesta" at the Brikama Football Field, commonly called SSP, the proceeds of which will be donated to the Brikama Healh Centre.

According to the organisers of this wonderful iniaititive, the event which is intended to be yearly is meant to push the country's music forces to the next level. The highlight of the event will be the stage performances by Gambian stars, as well other international artistes as they set to make history in the country's musical records. Also, the event will further create avenues for our local stars to meet with international promoters, and other renowned personality in the world entertainment scene.

Speaking to What's On recently before the start of the festival, Sulayman Sanyang, the chief executive officer of Badinyaa Promotion and Production, and the main man behind the initiative, disclosed that quality health care is of paramount importance to his organisation adding that he conceived the idea back in United Kingdom to contribute his quota  towards national development. "And I hope this is one way towards realising that dream, as the proceeds of the concert will be donated to a health facility. Also, it is our sole responsibility to promote Gambian music, considering the emergence of new sprouting stars that are making headways in the international spotlight. We have great stars that only need our support to expose them to international level," he said, while challenging Gambians that it’s high time to embrace our own stars.

Some of the guest artistes include Gambia's' Germany-based reggae star, Rebellion D'Recaller, Pa Bobo Jobarteh and his band, Dr Olugander, Jalex aka Akuntu, and Gambia's rising reggae dancehall genius, Sing-A-teh aka Freaky Joe and others.
