Briton in trouble over fraudThursday, June 25, 2009 A Standard Charted financial consultant, Ngoneh Joof, on Tuesday, gave her testimony as the last prosecution witness in the trial involving a British national, Michael Gerald Sheely, who is facing four charges of fraud, which he denies. In her evidence in chief, Ngoneh Joof told the court that on the 29th of January 2009, while she was working as a financial consultant for Standard Charted Bank at Kairaba Avenue, Michael came to her office to cash some traveller's cheques issued by American Express. According to her, she asked the accused for his ID Card. She narrated that after he had presented his ID, she then asked him about the amount. She further told the court that she took out the relevant form and filled it, then asked the accused to sign it. She added that she later sent the cheques to her supervisor, and asked the accused to wait. She said that when the cheques were sent back to her, she handed them to the cashier. According to her, when the accused had already cashed his cheque, she gave him some financial advice.
