Two compounds in Kass Fulla in the Niani district, Central River Region North were last Sunday burnt to ashes by a serious bush fire.  

The district chief, Pierre Bah with other dignitaries visited the scene and found out that the blaze destroyed most of the people's proceeds such as groundnuts as well as clothing, shelter and hay for their animals.

According to Yerro Jallow, the Alkalo of the village, the bush fire started from a Senegalese Forest Park while a heavy wind was blowing. He explained that the villagers tried hard to put down the fire but to no avail due to the heavy wind. "The compounds which were burnt down were family compounds," he said.

He then appealed to the government and philanthropists for assistance. Pierre Bah, the chief of Niani district on behalf of the governor of the Central River Region, expressed sympathy with the victims and further assured them that he would do everything possible to seek assistance for them.

He also advised his people to ensure that they make fire belts around their villages in order to prevent such problems.
