Cabinet changes major shake up imminent...

The president of the Republic, Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh, in accordance with the relevant sections of the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia, has effected some changes at Cabinet, a press release aired on GRTS, which was sent from the Office of the President at State House in Banjul, dated May 29, 2009, stated.

According to the release, the president, "acting under the provisions of section 71(4) (b) of the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia, has relieved Yankuba Touray, secretary of state for Fisheries, Water Resources and national Assembly Matters, of his Cabinet appointment as well as his position as the APRC National Mobiliser, with effect from, 29th May, 2009."

In a separate dispatch, The Gambian leader, acting in accordance with the provisions of section 168 of the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia, has relieved Teneng Mba Jaiteh of her position as the secretary general and head of civil service with effect from Wednesday, 27th May, 2009. Professor Jammeh, the release went on, appointed Abdoulie M Sallah, formerly secretary to Cabinet, as secretary general and Head of the Civil Service with immediate effect. 

Teneng Mba Jaiteh, according to the release, has been redeployed to the Ministry of Petroleum as deputy minister. The same release indicated that Dr Njogou L Bah, hitherto permanent secretary (1) Office of the President, now replaces Abdoulie M Sallah as secretary to Cabinet. The general public, the release concluded, is "further informed that a major Government shake up is imminent."

World leaders convey greetings to President JammehThe president of the Republic, His Excellency, Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, has received letters from leaders of the Kingdom Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Gabon, extending greetings and appreciation to him.
Saudi King His Highness, Abdallah in Abdul Aziz Al Saud, Custodian of the two Holy Mosques and king of Saudi Arabia, acknowledged receipt of His Excellency President Jammeh's message, earlier this year. 

The Saudi King's message reads: Following receipt of your message dated 6th march 2009, I have the pleasure to extend to you warm greetings and thanks for your noble and kind prayers expressed therein. While wishing Your Excellency good health and well-being and for the Gambian people development and progress, please accept Excellency my sincere salutation and consideration. 

Abdallah Bin Abdul Aziz Al SaudCustodian of the two Holy MosquesKing of Saudi Arabia  President BongoHis Excellency, El Hadj Omar Bongo, president of the Republic of Gabon, also wrote, acknowledging His Excellency President's Jammeh condolence message addressed to the Gabonese leader following the demise of First lady Lucie Bongo Ondimba.

The message reads: Mr President of the Republic and Dear Brother,Upon the death of my wife, Edith Lucie Bongo Ondimba, grif that struck my children, my family and myself, you were kind enough to give us the comfort of your compassion and your support.

We were particularly touched by this demonstration of brotherhood and solidarity. In turn, I would then wish to express our most sincere thanks and my feelings of renewed friendship and esteem. 
Please accept, Mr president of the Republic and Dear Brother, the assurances of my highest and fraternal consideration.
