Perseverance in reciting the Holy Qur'an, the good salaf used to do the following:

a. Recite the Qur'an excessively.
b. Weep during their recitation or while listening to the Qur'an as a result of their reverence fro the Almighty, Allah.

c. As Ramadan is the month of revelation of the Quran, the Muslim should recite a great deal of it. For Gabriel, the angel who conveyed the Qur'an to the prophet (PBUH) used to teach the latter the Qur'an I Ramadan. Uthman Ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) used to finish the whole Qur'an in less than a week. Some salaf used to finish the Qur'an within three, seven or ten nights, and they recited it during prayer or otherwise.
It is worthwhile to know that the most favourable period for reciting the Qur'an is during the month of Ramadan especially at the nights when people seek Laitatul Qadr i.e. the night of power.

d. Abdullah Ibu Masoud reported, Allah's Apostle (PBUH) said to him, Read for me so I said, I read for you and it has been revealed to you I the Prophet (PBUH) replied to 'I would like to hear it recited by someone else." So Ibn Masoud recited the Surah of Al-Nisaa (women) till he reached the verse: how then if we brought from each people a witness and a bough three as a witness against these people." Then the apostle said, that's enough" and his eyes were filled with tears.

Abu Huraire reported that when this verse was revealed," do you then wonder at this recital and will ye laugh and not weep" (Al Najm, the star 59-60). The people of suffa wept, and when the Apostle (PBUH) heard of that he wept hence we also wept then the prophet (PBUH) said, "Whoever weeps for fear of Allah, will never be sent to Hell."

5. Staying at the mosque till sunrise:
After Al-fajr at the (dawn payer, the Apostle (PBUH) used to stay a the mosque till sunrise- (Transmitted by Muslim)
Anas reported that the prophet (PBUH) stated, whoever offer Al Fajr (Dawn) prayer in congregation, sits praising Allah till sunrise, and then prays two Rakaats, will get a reward which is quite equivalent to that of Hajj and umra: - Transmitted by Al-tirmith: - This is the case every day on day other then Ramadan. How about the day of Ramadan?

6. I' tikaif: the prophet (PBUH) used to practise I' tikaif in the last ten days of the month of Ramadan. And in the year in which he passed away, he practised I 'tikaif in the last twenty days (of Ramadan) (Transmitted by Al-Bukhari.) I'tikaif is a way of worship that includes reciting the Holy Qur'an additional prayers, praise of Allah invocation, etc. One might think that it is easy for a person who has a strong and true will. I'tikaif means to confine oneself in a mosque for prayers, and invocations leaving the worldly jobs for a limited number of days. A large number of Muslims practise I'tikaif in the last ten days of Ramadan, looking for the night of Qadr (power).

7. Umra in Ramadan:
The prophet (PBUH) stated, 'Performing umra in Ramadan is equivalent to Hajj with me' (in another report). Transmitted by Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

8. Looking for the night of Qadr (power):
Allah, Almighty, said: we have indeed revealed this message (Qur'an) in the night of power. And what will explain to thee what the Night of power is. The night of power is the night power is better than a thousand months. The prophet (PBUH) said." Whoever observer Qiyam" the supererogatory night prayer" in the night of power, which is In Ramadan, with faith and attention to earn the reward, then all his previous sins are forgiven. Transmitted by Al-Bukhari and Muslim. Aisha narrated: Allah's Apostle (PBUH) said, 'search for the Night of Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan.

Aisha also related: I said, 'O massager of Allah, what supplication should I recite if I find the night of Qadr? He said, Recite: O Allah! You are forgiving. You like forgiveness. Forgive me as well (transmitted by trimithi)

9. Increasing one's praise of Allah, prayer, and asking Allah's forgiveness:
The days and nights of Ramadan are the blessed days; therefore, you should avail yourself of Allah's blessing by intensifying your prayers especially at the times of their acceptance (by Allah):

Some of these invaluable times are:
A. during Ramadan, invocations of those who are fasting are accepted by Allah. Almighty Allah comes down saying: is there anyone, needy, to be given what he needs?
Is there anyone who asks for forgiveness so that I may forgive him?

B. Asking Allah for forgiveness at the time before dawn.

C. At a certain time on Friday which should be the last hour of that day.
Lastly, I would like to draw your attention dear brother, to something of great importance, and that is the sincerity of ones intention, for many a fasting if is lacks sincerity and devotion, that is why the prophet (PBUH) has always stressed this point by saying: with faith and the intention to earn the reward
Allah said:

Say: I am but a man like your selves, (but) the inspiration has come to me, that your God is one God: whoever expects to meet his lord, let him worship in righteousness, and In the worship of his lord, admit no one s partner: Al Kahf (the cave) 110. Allah's Apostle (PBUH) also said, what I fear most for you s minor polytheism. They said: what is it? He said; "it is hypocrisy.
