Captain Sanyang is new GAF PRO

Captain Lamin K. Sanyang has been appointed as the new public relations officer (PRO) of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF). He also hasa new deputy in the person of 2nd Lt. Kemo Kanuteh. Captain Sanyang replaces Captain Abdoulie Mboob, who has been re-assigned.


Speaking to the Daily Observer at Defence Headquarters in Banjul Thursday, Captain Sanyang expressed gratitude to the chief of Defence Stafffor the trust and confidence bestowed on him in appointing him to the post. He said: “I hope and pray that with the support of all the officers and men of GAF, I will be able to steer the affairs of the office to the benefit of every member of the Gambia Armed Forces.”


The new PRO further stated that GAF is a household name today thanks to the diligence, dedication, vision and ideals of the president and commander-in-chief of GAF. He thanked God Almighty for the appointment and his family for the support and encouragement. He also expressed appreciation for the great job done by his predecessor.


For his part, Second Lieutenant Kemo Kanuteh expressed gratitude to the GAF High Command for the appointment and the trust.


Who is PRO Sanyang?

Captain Lamin K. Sanyang was born on 21st February 1975 in Sintet Village in Foni Jarrol Districtof the West Coast Region. He attended St John Bosco’s Primary School from 1981-1988. He later attended Nusrat High School from 1988-1995, where he obtained his GCE “O” and “A” level certificates.


In 1996 he worked with the IEC as a registration officer during the registration for the first election in the Second Republic. From 1998-2000 and 2000-2001, he attended Gambia Technical Training Institute (GTTI) and the Banjul Institute for Professional Studies where he obtained AAT level 1, 2 and 3 respectively.


From 2001-2002, he worked with an Accountancy firm called KPMG Peat Marwick in Banjul as a trainee accountant, from where he conducted audit works at Senegambia Beach Hotel, Arab Gambia Islamic Bank(AGIB),Trust Bank Ltd, GNIC, Banjul American Embassy School and the Central Bank of The Gambia among others.


Capt. Sanyang joined GAF in June 2004 and later proceeded to study aviation at the National Aviation University of Ukraine from 2003-2008 where he obtained a BSc in Computer-integrated Automatic Control Systems. Upon his return from Ukraine in August 2008, he was posted to the Office of the Inspector General of GAF as a staff officer.


From July 2011to July 2012, he was deployed to Cote d’lvoire as a Military Observer under the United Nations Mission (ONUCL). Capt Sanyang loves reading, listening to current affairs and speaks the Russian, Ukrainian and French languages. He is happily married with a son.


Deputy PRO Kanuteh

2nd Lt.Kemo Kanuteh was born on the 29 of October, 1981 in Brikama and enlisted into GAF in 2009 as Officer Cadet. He underwent his basic military training in 2009. He served as an instructor at GAF Training School, helping to train intake 31, 32A and B.
