Carayol opens city account with braceMonday, July 19, 2010 Mustapha Carayol struck twice as his new division two club Lincoln City claimed their second successive win of pre-season with a 3-1 friendly victory over Walton Casuals on Friday. The Gambian winger, who joined Lincoln from Torquay United this summer, opened the scoring after 25 minutes following a pass from fellow new boy Drewe Broughton. Carayol doubled his tally with a long-range strike 10 minutes later before the hosts pulled back one. Cian Hughton set up on-trial forward Scott Anson, who came off the bench in the second half, to score Lincoln's third for his second goal in as many games. Carayol remains in the centre of controversy as the two fourth tier clubs [Lincoln and Torquay] continue a fierce battle for the Gambian. Torquay manager Paul Buckle has insisted that the club will hold out for a transfer fee for winger who rejected a new offer before joining Lincoln City. The winger revealed how a fractious relationship with Paul Buckle encouraged him to quit Torquay as he targeted a fresh start with his new side this season. Carayol admitted he had made up his mind to leave the club last January, citing his problems with Buckle and a desire to find regular football as reasons for leaving. City eventually came to his rescue this summer, snapping up the 22-year-old on a two-year contract with the two clubs at loggerheads over a compensation fee. That will eventually be decided by a Football League tribunal, but in the meantime Carayol seems to be showing his worth on the pitch for his new side. Author: Nanama Keita | Media Actions See Also |
