CEDAG gives to ECD centres in NBRTuesday, October 20, 2009 The Children and Environmental Development Association The Gambia (CEDAG), Saturday donated school materials to the Early Childhood Development Centres (ECDC), at a presentation ceremony held at Daru Fodayba and Dasilami, in North Bank Region. The donated materials included 100 school uniforms, 120 chairs and 60 desks. Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Morris I.O Anyim, the director of CEDAG, underscored the importance his organisation attaches to the development of Early Childhood Education centre with the objective of preparing children at tender age to start reading with the view to contributing to the attainment of quality education. According to him, the donation of the furniture and uniforms to the centre is to complement government's efforts in the promotion and attainment of education for all and by extension creating conducive learning environment for students. He noted that there is a need to empower communities to know the value of early childhood education so as to better enhance their participation in socio economic advancement at grassroots level. Anyim further stated that his organisation would continue to support the centres with food, provide teacher-training package on early childhood education at Gambia College and provision of adequate learning materials. He expressed delight at the level of community participation and involvement towards the implementation of development projects. He cited the community's poultry project, which he said, will enable the community to plough back their resources to sustain the early childhood education programme. He assured them of his organisation's continuous support to improve the health and well-being of the women and children. For his part, Alhaji Fodayba Jawara, the Alkalo of Daru Fodayba, hailed CEDAG for their immense contribution in the socio-economic development of women and youths in the village, citing the poultry project and early childhood education are a testimony of improving the livelihood of women and children. In conclusion, he assured them of his full support and urged parents to uphold to high standard of personal hygiene of their children at all times.
