CFCO on Views from the Frontline

Africa » Gambia
Friday, July 24, 2009
The Children For Children Organisation (CFCO), an action based solidarity organisation that advocates for issues that include and respond to educational, political, social, health and other needs of children in The Gambia, and also the national coordinating organisation for the Views from the Frontline Project, last Tuesday organised a one-day consultative meeting with stakeholders, to assess the findings of the project.

The Views from the Frontline is a survey that involves local stakeholders from government and civil society organisations to measure progress towards implementing disaster prevention measures at country level. The project is designed to support the implementation of the Hyogo Framework of Action by establishing a global infrastructure to measure progress at local level.

Speaking at the meeting, Essa Khan, executive director of the National Disaster Management Agency, emphasised the importance of collecting the views of grass root people who fall victim to disaster, as well as the engagement of civil society organisations and policy authorities in disaster risk reduction.

The meeting included presentations on the progress registered by The Gambia in implementing the Hyogo framework of action, work of civil society organisations in disaster risk reduction and also findings of the Views from the Frontline project.
