Chamen Kerr Bai Dam observes annual Gamo

Africa » Gambia
Monday, May 25, 2009
Friday 15th May, 2009 marked the day of the annual Chamen Kerr Bai Dam Gamo. Hundreds of worshippers flocked into Chamen to commemorate the annual Gamo in purpose and substance.

People from far and wide transcending the borders of the Gambia and Senegal gathered in the village centre for the ceremony. There were great and erudite speakers at the night, prominent among them, Bai Tijan Cham, Imam Abdoulie Bah and Imam Muntaha Faye.  Alhagie Baboucarr Cham was the guest speaker from Senegal and Ousman Cham was the master of ceremony at the night. There were great personalities also in attendance notably Alieu Bittaye of Medina Bai Nyasse of Koalack, Senegal.

The occasion was marked by remarkable and enlightening preachings about the life and times of Prophet Muhammed (PBUH). In revelation was also the crusades of the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) in the propagation and expansion of Islam. There were also preachings about the history of Bai Nyasse, Sheikh Al Islam, much to the delight of the worshippers. At this great night, Chamen also witnessed for the first time, the blessing of video conferencing technology, where other sections of the worshippers who could not make into the tent, were able to view the activities of the Gamo. This technology was cutting edge and indeed a blessing to the hundreds of people gathered in Chamen for this year's Gamo.
