Coco Ocean boss’ attempted murder case transferred to SCC

Principal Magistrate Foster of the Bundung Magistrates’ Court Thursday ordered the transfer of a robbery and attempted murder case involving two men -Muhammed Carew and Modou Jaw to the Special Criminal Court (SCC) in Banjul.The accused persons are standing trial on three counts of conspiracy to commit a felony, robbery with violence and attempted murder, all contrary to the Laws of The Gambia.


The particulars of offence on count one revealed that on the 21st April 2012 at Kerr Serign in the Kombo North District of the West Coast Region, the two accused persons conspired to commit a felony to wit robbery with violence on one Farid Bensouda. On count two, the particulars revealed that on the same date and place, the accused persons unlawfully robbed off one Farid Bensouda, an LG mobile phone valued at D10, 000 and also caused him several injuries all over his body. While on count three, the particulars of offence revealed that on the same date and place, the accused persons unlawfully stabbed Farid Bensouda several times all over his body, thereby committed an offence.


When the charges were read to the accused persons, they both pleaded not guilty while the first accused person Muhammed Carew pleaded guilty on the robbery with violence charge.Meanwhile, the prosecutor handing the case, Inspector Touray made an application before the presiding magistrate for the case to be transferred to the Special Criminal Court in Banjul and his application was granted by the trial magistrate.


The magistrate in his ruling ordered that the case be transferred to the said court in Banjul. He also ordered that the accused persons be remanded in custody pending their appearance at the Special Criminal Court in Banjul.
