Community wells rehabilitated in CRR

Thursday, March 12, 2009
The Kuntaur Area Council recently concluded the rehabilitation of wells in four communities under their Local Government Area.

The communities that benefited were Jereng Mbayen in Upper Saloum, Jamali Babou in Sami, Mesira in Lower Saloum and Kerr Ali Jelly in Upper Saloum. The rehabilitation of the wells cost over thirty-five thousand dalasis.

In his remarks, the chief executive officer of the Kuntaur Area Council,  Kebba Drammeh said water is life. He noted that lack of safe drinking water and other social services aggravate poverty.  He seized the opportunity to call on the people of the area to pay their rates and taxes on time to enable the council to provide them with the necessary projects.  He said the role of the council is to mobilise resources and utilise them.  He then thanked them for their cooperation during the rehabilitation process.

Mamat Mbye, the chairman of the Kuntaur Area Council spoke at length on the importance of water, noting that without water, living would be difficult for human beings. Chairman Mbye added that providing safe drinking water is a great development. He confirmed that these communities were seriously affected by acute water shortage and urged them to make the best use of the wells and take proper care of them.
