Editorial

We wish to congratulate the newly sworn-in minister for Presidential Affairs and two members of the Public Service Commission for their courage and determination to serve the nation.

We also urge them to adhere to the president’s advice that they should ensure unity, discipline and commitment to national duty at all times. It is obvious that the sustainability of any national development endeavour largely depends on the efficiency of the state machinery. The more effective and efficient the state machinery is, the more the public staff submerges self in the service to the national interest and ensures that state resources are maximally utilised.

Commitment to duty, unity and discipline on their part is therefore fundamental. After all, the achievement of national development aspirations would be wishful thinking without greater commitment on the part of Gambians, particularly public servants, in working for the success and sustainability of our development process.

Already, it is evident that the leadership is not relenting in his efforts to transform this country into a highly developed nation. They should therefore take the leadership as a mirror and move forward with the demands of development. The newly sworn-in minister and commissioners are of course aware that the country is running against time to meet its targets, and as such they should all come on board with equal commitment, dedication and hard work to ensure that we achieve our collective aspirations.

Once again we say thank you for accepting the great responsibility.
