Convicted Doudou Janneh appealed against death sentenceThursday, May 21, 2009 Doudou Janneh, who was convicted and sentenced to death by the Bundung Magistrates Court sometime this year, has filed an application at the High Court appealing against the conviction and death sentence. Janneh was facing trial of allegedly murdering one Sheriff Minteh of Serrekunda sometime in 2007. He was found guilty on the said charge and was subsequently convicted and sentenced to death. Antouman Gaye, lead counsel for the appellant at the trial before Justice Moses Richard at the special court on criminal offences at the High Court, said he received documents with regards to the case and the documents are bulky, therefore, applied for a short adjourned date to enable him go through them. The presiding Judge, Justice Moses Richard explained to him that the case was adjourned for records of proceedings to be made available to both parties adding that the original copy of the record is in his chambers for reference purposes.
