Top Class: Corruption in schools

Africa » Gambia
Wednesday, September 02, 2009
Schools are said to be learning places but rather this has always been the other way.

So many illegal things are being done in schools by both students and teachers. Parents do send their children to school to learn the good things of life, as we all believe that education is the key to success and it helps to create awareness. When you are a student, you do go through many obstacles especially when you are in higher institution like colleges and universities.

Sometimes you will see a situation where a female student must date a teacher inorder to pass her exams and if she does not grant the wish of her teacher, she may fail her exams if she is not smart enough to deal with the situation. Another issue is that, in schools, sometimes things do go the other way round by teachers been disturbed by their own students especially the male students.  For example a male student will approach a teacher requesting marks that he does not work for and also the student may threaten to deal with the teacher if marks are not awarded to him.

And lastly, bribery which is defined as the crime of giving money or presents to someone for a purpose. For corruption to be avoided in schools, students should take a stand by informing either their parents or even the school authorities that should be able to put an end to such practices.
