Cotton, Baptish Churches give to Demfai

Africa » Gambia
Friday, February 05, 2010
The Cotton and Baptist Churches from Bedfordshire, in the United Kingdom, recently donated learning materials to Demfai Lower Basic School in Sami District, Central River Region north.

Speaking at the occasion, Alhaji Ganyie Touray, the regional governor, commended the donors for the laudable assistance they are rendering to the community. He said the donated materials will help both the students and their parents in the provision of school materials. He urged parents to send their children to school and monitor their education. Mathew Barber and David Tree, representatives of the churches, expressed their pleasure in helping needy children in The Gambia. They spoke at length on the importance of education, noting  that it is the centre of development.

For his part, Ebrima Jallow, their Gambian counterpart, said that the objective of their association is to assist the needy children in the community. He revealed that the same group has donated eighteen mobile phones to some needy people particularly those who organize activities within the community.
