CRR disaster victims assistedThursday, July 29, 2010 The Gambia Red Cross Society(GRCS) through its Disaster Risk Reduction Project, recently donated nine bags of groundnut and fifty solar lamps worth over D18,000 to the disaster victims in the community of Kerewan Dumbokono in the Upper Fulladu West District, Central River Region (CRR) south. The solar lamps were specifically meant for the pupils of the Kerewan Dumbokono Lower Basic School. Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the secretary general of the Gambia Red Cross Society, Momodou Bah, said that the solar lamps will help the pupils in their studies, while urging them to make best use of the items. For his part, Pa Musa Kijera, the regional Red Cross branch officer, said their motto is to serve one another and that the gesture is a clear manifestation of GRCS's commitment to helping humanity. He urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the groundnut in order to improve food security in the area. He called on the pupils to improve on their performance in school. The head teacher of Kerewan Dumbokono Lower Basic School, Nyanya Sanneh, commended the donors for their humanitarian gesture. She asserted that the donated items will go a long way in improving the performance of the pupils in the school. She called on others to emulate the donors.Other speakers at the occasion included Julaba Fatty, the alkalo of the village; Isatou Kongira and Haruna Kongira.
