CUSA meets Senegalese high commissioner

Africa » Gambia
Tuesday, September 29, 2009
The Campaign for United State of Africa (CUSA), a non-profitable organization established with the aim of advocating the formation of a union government in Africa among others, last Friday paid a courtesy call on the Senegalese high commissioner to The Gambia at the high commission in Pipeline.

The delegation, led by the president of the organization, Vincent Anani, visited the Senegalese diplomat to discuss with him issues relating to the need for the formation of a United States of Africa and also to brief him about their upcoming conference scheduled for the 24th of October at the 22nd July Square in Banjul.

Speaking during their audience with the high commissioner, Vincent Anani described the formation of a union government as the only way for Africans to realise the numerous natural resources the continent is endowed with and also to be able to develop like other continents. He expressed delight over the stance of the Gambian leader and the Senegalese president in ensuring that the dream for United States of Africa becomes a reality. He also used the occasion to call on the people, organizations and all peace lovers of this continent to support them in achieving their target.

Sasky Nevis, coordinator of the organization, described their upcoming conference as a manifestation of their readiness to sensitise the people about the necessity for a union government in Africa. He said the conference will gather people from all walks of life in order to discuss how the ratification of central union government can be achieved. He called for moral and financial support in making the conference a successful one.

Ida Cham, the treasurer of the organization thanked the Senegalese high commission for accepting to have audience with them, adding that African unity is in the hands of Africans and as such Africans should come under one umbrella. Cham said her organization is not only campaigning for the formation of United States of Africa but also for the total social, political and economic integration of Africa. She however pointed out that they are starting the sensitisation in The Gambia but will also go out to other African countries.

Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Senegalese high commissioner, Mbaba Njie, Foreign Affairs adviser at the high commission, thanked the Campaign for United States of Africa Organization for the good idea of sensitising the people on the need for a union government in Africa. He described the formation of United States of Africa as not the responsibility of only the heads of state but Africans in general. He also thanked the Senegalese president and the Gambian leader for the love they have for Africa and assured the delegation of his office's full support to the organization.
