D1 Million fine for drug peddler

Principal Magistrate Sheriff Tabally of the Kanifing Magistrate Court on Thursday 12th July 2012 convicted one Sheikh Tijan Soweof being in possession of illicit drugs and sentenced him to a fine of D1 million in default to serve 10 years imprisonment on count one, and D250.000 in default to serve five years on count two.


The particulars of the offence on count one stated that the convict on the 15th May 2012 at Nice to be Nice Bar and Restaurant in Brikama in the West Coat Region was caught in possession of 86g 250mg of cannabis rasin commonly known a (Hashish) thereby commited an offence, while on count two it stated that on the same day and place in the West Coast Region, the convict was caught in possession of 40 stones of cannabis rasin (Hashish) concealed in him for the purpose of supply by retail, wholesale, transport and transfer thereby committed an offence.The convict pleaded guilty on both counts.


ASP Remond Jarju narrated t the facts of the case, which the convict admitted. He was sentenced accordingly.
