D1.5M worth of equipment for SJGH

Africa » Gambia
Friday, August 03, 2012

Sulayman Junkung General Hospital (SJGH) in Bwiam Thursday received hospital equipment worth D1.5million, donated by one Ansumana Suwa, a native of Bwiam resident in Germany. The equipment, which were handed over at a ceremony held at the hospital premises in Bwiam, include wheelchairs, beds, crotches, water coolers with filters, carriers and walking aids.

Speaking on behalf of the managing director of KGI who facilitated the arrival of the equipment in Bwiam, Pa Malick Ceesay, National Assembly member for Lower Saloum, said the donation came as a result of a good partnership between Pa Ousman Bojang, the managing director of KGI and the German - Gambia organisation in Bremen, Germany, under Suma and his wife.

He said that the sole concept of the charity is to raise funds and complement the efforts of the Gambian government in the health care system, school system, and garden programmes for schools and villages in the country. He revealed that the school project has already developed a construction plan for health care and schools in various regions, which is expected to start in December.

Hon. Ceesay further revealed that Pa Bojang has requested the management of the hospital to identify a member of staff to travel with him to Bremen, Germany, so as to expose the individual to the latest technologies in the health sector as well as other relevant health issues. He thanked President Jammeh for creating the opportunities and the enabling environment for both Gambians and non-Gambians to participate in the development and progress of the country.

For his part, Yankuba Colley, the mayor of Kanifing Municipality expressed delight at being part of the event, adding that the hospital is named after a great person. He commended the efforts of those who are working towards the development of the village and urged the people of Bwiam to be proud of the health sector. “The donation is greatly big and these materials will serve a long way,” he said.

Musa Amul Nyassi, the alkalo of Bwiam, said Suwa has demonstrated that he is a patriotic Gambian. He pointed out that the government cannot do it alone, adding that the hospital came out of the vision of the president of the Republic.
