The village of Busumbala in Kombo North, Western Region, is poised to benefit from a development project worth about D800,000, courtesy of the Community Driven Development Project (CDDP), under the Department of Community Development.

Component One of the project involves the rehabilitation of 28 major roads within the village. This component of the project, accounting for D570, 000, was completed last Saturday, with the villagers providing the labour as part of their ten percent contribution.

Speaking to the Daily Observer, Pa Jatta, a youth activist in the village, said 228 truckloads of gravel were used in the road rehabilitation works, with some of the roads rehabilitated stretching up to 4km. "Most of these roads had been completely destroyed by the past rains, making them impossible for motorists to access," he explained.

Jatta added that the second and third components of the project include the construction of some shops for revenue generation, and the construction of a multi-purpose youth centre. Jatta rejoiced at the fact that his village had succeeded in ensuring that the road project was executed within a week rather than the three-month deadline given by the financiers.

For his part, the councillor for Busumbala Ward, Bolong LK Jatta, described the coming of the project as timely considering the bad nature of the roads before the exercise. He thanked the financiers and assured them of his people's cooperation to make the project a resounding success.
